Enjoy the very best winter wonders

The colder months are here and we can’t help but get into the spirit of enjoying seasonal produce, trying to hold off from eating our first mince pie of the year and staying in to enjoy cosy nights by the fire with our big mug of hot chocolate. There’s plenty for us to delve into but here are just some of our favourite things we love this season.

Filled pumpkin

Showcase your centrepieces.

There’s so much to love pumpkins for! From carved creations to the hero ingredient in your favourite winter recipes, this overlooked marvel is full of wonder!

So next time you think about passing by this season’s best vegetable, here’s how you can make it the centrepiece of your next dinner party.

Roast it up! It’s surprisingly quick and easy and the best thing is you can fill it with an array of flavours. Whether a cheesy garlicky pasta dish is a bit of you, or maybe a more rich Mediterranean mix of ras el hanout and mixed fruits and rice come into play. However you want to experiment, do it with a pumpkin centrepiece!

Porridge bowl

Warm up your mornings.

There’s some things that help us up on the darker mornings and get us going for the day, and one of the best things for our body in the mornings can be a big hearty bowl of porridge!

There’s no need to be boring about it, get creative but also get seasonal! Not only is seasonal produce much better for us as it’s produced closer to home so nutrients are closer to the plate, it’s also sustainable for our pockets and the environment.

So grab yourself a hot bowl of goodness and top it with apple, grated ginger, cinnamon and more.

Turmeric latte

A different way to latte.

Turmeric lattes are a beautiful drink to enjoy this time of year. Boasting many health benefits, this magical golden powder can help you kick some of those coffee cravings whilst giving you that hot drink boost you need.

Flavours such as ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg can be added to make this an even tastier seasonal cup of goodness. Team with your favourite plant based milks and vanilla or honey for added sweetness and ‘hey presto’ you’ve got something that tastes really good!

Iced Christmas cake sliced

Be prepared.

It’s time to start preparing for the spectacle cake of the year! The one and only Christmas Cake! Surprisingly easy to prepare, this cake is full of delicious juicy fruits that have been doused in a fair bit of brandy!

‘Stir-up Sunday’ can certainly be a tradition for many, but others find the time to prepare their fruits much further in advance to give extra time for those flavours to develop.

There’s a lot of joy to be had out of making your own, if you haven’t given it a go before, why not find the time to do one this year, you won’t regret it!

We could go on about all the wonders that the winter months bring and what foods delight us as we find ways to cope with the chillier weather. Whether you love a seasonal squash, make time to prepare cakes or just enjoy a hot cuppa. We’d love to find out from you, what you love to eat these winter months and what you love most about the season of winter!
