Fridge door is not closing

Discover why your fridge door might not be closing properly and what are the steps you can take to resolve this problem on your own. Once diagnosed, we recommend urgently looking into this issue in order to prevent further damage to the appliance and avoid putting at risk what matters most – your food.

Note: Door replacements should be carried out only by professional Bosch engineers.

Check for obstructions

Sometimes larger items stored especially in the door of the fridge can cause the door to not shut properly. Check that you have not left anything in the way of the passage and shut the door again. If you are struggling to fit everything in your fridge, check out our helpful guide on fridge storage by clicking here.

Leaking or demagnetised door seal

If your fridge’s door seal has a leak, your fridge door will fail to close properly. You can check if the door seal is faulty by trying to slip a small piece of paper or a £5 note through the door. If the item goes through, you will need to replace it. Fortunately, replacing the door seal is an easy task and does not require an engineer.

Aside from your door seal leaking, it could also lose magnetisation, which will require you to either re-magnetise it or replace it. If you are not familiar with how to do this, we recommend replacing the seal as a whole.

Level the appliance

Using a spirit level, ensure that your fridge is placed in a balanced way and that the appliance does not tilt towards any direction. If the appliance is not level, water may flow out of the ice maker, ice cubes may be irregular or the door may not close properly.

You can use the bolts underneath the fridge to help you level it out properly.
