USER REVIEW OF BOSCH BCS122GB
USER REVIEW OF BOSCH BCS122GB
As promised the Packed Vacuum Cleaner arrived early on Friday 11th May.
The Bosch packaging was a very strongly built box, and all included parts were well protected and separated in the polystyrene castings. The box also had some useful informative photos showing the possible ways of using the cleaner.
There are several documents, an Unlimited manual, a charger manual, and a Lithium battery manual. They all cover a long list of languages, none in Welsh for me! The amount of information on safety aspects is very repetitive, but not the fault of Bosch – more so on political bureaucracy.
I point out one error on page 9 of the Charger manual. In the “Flashing Red Battery Charge Indicator 2” paragraph, one is sent to the German details on troubleshooting rather than the English one that immediately follows!
In the Unlimited manual page 46 you state “Battery capacity reduced BY 20%”. This suggests that the red light starts to flash when the battery power is as high as 80%! This obviously implies that the quoted entry should be “Battery capacity reduced TO 20%”. So possibly a translation error, as you have it correctly in the German on page 44 (Akkuladung < 20%).
It is not necessary to have the Wall Mount next to a socket (page 45). Your only mains connection required is for the charger, and that is not on the wall mount.
Maybe not requested, but must comment that your advert in national press refers to a Quick Charger EHZUC181GB, when any customer knows the charger that applies to that advert as AL1880CV. (The other, above, I cannot find any reference to it anywhere). And John Lewis advertise the BCS122GB on the internet with a misleading picture of the carton of another model.
Finally I would have liked a small table showing the contents of your 3 UNLIMITED cleaners with what is included with each. That would be very simple, but so much more helpful than “* Depending on model” information statement.
It has had various jobs in a 9 roomed bungalow and two cars. And one has to immediately say that I was very very impressed with its performance. It is comfortable to hold and work with, and is of acceptable weight (1.8 Kgm with battery) for carrying around. The bungalow has carpet, tiles and laminate flooring (each roughly a third of total area) that was a good test for the Floor nozzle with electric brush. And indeed it did a good job on all surfaces. In the cars the Flexible crevice nozzle proved to be a very useful accessory for getting into those difficult corners found in car interiors. As regards cleaning, the Plate and Fluff filters are easy – the 3 1800 turns seem odd, but it works. Your instructions refrain from mentioning wet cleaning, but you do say “do not need to be rinsed”. The floor nozzle takes more effort to clean. The use of Turbo is noticeable in the manoeuvring effort, it is certainly powerful. The batteries (3.0 Ah) do give acceptable runtimes, possibly more than you quote with Turbo usage. And having 2 batteries is wonderful. Additionally they can be used in other compatible Bosch equipment. And the AL1880CV charger does give informative data on the extent of charging and battery power.
A highly capable vacuum cleaner, could be slightly lighter for those high reaching jobs, and for me the XXL Upholstery nozzle would be welcomed. So give the Designers and Engineers a score of 95%, and say 80% for those responsible for the documents. As a Reviewer, I was part of a manufacturer appointed, independent review panel.
