How to clean the fridge coils

Fridges and freezers are essential appliances in the home, and maintaining a high level of cleanliness is not only important for hygienic reasons, but also to ensure that they continue to work effectively to keep your food fresh and tasting delicious. A refrigerator’s condenser coils help cool refrigerant so it can produce cool air. However, these coils, located on the back or bottom of the refrigerator, can easily become covered in dust and dirt. When this happens, the coils may be unable to properly cool the refrigerant and the refrigerator’s internal temperature can rise. Therefore, cleaning the condenser coils can help restore the refrigerator’s temperature. We suggest cleaning the coils every 6-12 months by following the steps shown below.

Step by step guide

1. Switch off and unplug refrigerator.
2. Locate the condenser coils.
3. Use a narrow hose vacuum attachment to vacuum accumulated dust and debris.
4. Gently circulate an appliance brush in and around the coils to capture hard-to-reach dust and dirt.
5. Vacuum up any lingering dust particles around the coils and on the floor.
6. Plug refrigerator back in to the mains.
