What is the difference between electric and induction hobs?

The hob is a necessity in any kitchen, however with so many different options available to purchase, there is a lot to consider. For example; style, efficiency and fuel type. Take a look at the table below to compare the different Bosch hob types, to see which is best for you.

Induction hobs

  • Work by passing a current through copper coils. The magnetic field causes cookware to heat up.
  • Only induction-compatible pans are suitable.
  • Stylish, minimalistic design.
  • When a pan is removed from the heat it diffuses heat instantly.
  • Minimal residual heat as only the cooking zone heats up, making them energy-efficient and cost-effective.

Electric hobs

  • Electric hobs use electricity to generate heat.
  • Easy to clean and maintain due to their smooth surface.
  • Two types of electric hobs: induction and ceramic.
  • Electric hobs are safe due to certain features, such as indicating which zones are hot.
  • Unlike induction hobs, ceramic hobs don't require certain cookware.
