Water buildup inside the fridge

Fridge condensation, or water buildup, is a common issue which usually arises after a blockage in the drainage hole. Fortunately, it does not indicate that your appliance is malfunctioning, but rather signals that something can be done better. Read below, and find useful tips and tricks to help you resolve this issue and get your fridge back in perfect working order.

Drainage hole is blocked

Why is there water in my fridge? Usually this is the first question that arises when we see water in our fridge. The answer is actually quite simple – condensation builds up and forms a small puddle of water, and if the condensation channel or the drainage hole is blocked water will not flow out.

To resolve the issue, we recommend regularly cleaning the drainage hole to ensure that condensation can drain effectively. To do this, follow the steps below:

1. Remove the pull-out containers.
2. Carefully clean the drainage hole located at the lower part of the back wall with a cloth and a moistened cotton bud.
3. Using a soft sponge, remove the water from the appliance.
4. Wipe down the interior of the appliance with a food-safe Fridge Cleaner.

If you are having trouble locating the drainage hole on your appliance, please refer to the instruction manual for further information.

Avoid opening the door for too long

When you open the door for a prolonged period, moisture enters the interior and this can cause your fridge to work harder to deal with the fluctuation in temperature. The steam coming off from hot food will condensate and lead to a buildup of water.

Properly store hot food

We recommend letting food cool well enough before placing it within the appliance – room temperature works best. You should also ensure that the food is well packaged before leaving it inside. To read more on how to store food and organise your fridge, click here.

Level the appliance

Using a spirit level, ensure that your fridge is placed in a balanced way and that the appliance does not tilt towards any direction. If the appliance is not level, water will not drain correctly. You can use the bolts underneath the fridge to help you level it out properly.
