Fridge freezer is making noise

If your fridge is making a loud noise you may be worried that there’s something wrong. Most often the reason is not a fault, but rather normal appliance behaviour. In this short guide, we will first take you through the reasons why your appliance might be making different noises and what to do in case the operating noise is louder than normal.

Bosch fridge freezer

Normal operating noise

The noises listed below are completely normal and they normally do not indicate that there is something wrong with your appliance.

  • Droning noise: motors are running, usually happens when opening the appliance door.
  • Bubbling or humming noise: refrigerant is flowing through the tubing or water is flowing into the ice maker.
  • Clicking noise: motor, switches or solenoid valves are switching on/off.
  • Cameras are making a clicking noise: standby mode is finishing and the cameras are being calibrated. No data transfer takes place.
  • Rumbling noise: ready ice cubes from the ice maker are falling into the ice cube container.
  • Sporadic clicks or cracks: automatic defrosting is running.

Level the appliance

If your fridge is not standing level, it will not function optimally and you may notice that the operating noises are louder than normal. Use a spirit level to ensure that the appliance is aligned.

Unstable drip tray

Occasionally you may have to secure the drip tray if it comes out of place. It is usually located at the lower part on the back of the fridge, but if yours is not there, we recommend using your user manual to locate it. While at it, we also recommend giving your drip tray a nice clean up with a microfiber cloth or paper towels since it usually stays out of sight for too long.
