Fridge is leaking water

If your fridge is leaking water it’s important to understand why this might be happening. Read below to diagnose where the issue could be coming from and discover potential solutions to the problem. If you are unable to diagnose, or fix the problem yourself, we recommend booking an engineer visit with one of our Bosch trained engineers.

Drainage hole is blocked

If your appliance’s condensation channel or drainage hole is blocked, a leakage can be expected. Fortunately, the fix is usually simple – we recommend regularly cleaning the drainage hole to ensure that condensation can drain effectively. To do this, follow the steps below:

1. Remove the pull-out containers.
2. Carefully clean the drainage hole located at the lower part of the back wall with a cloth and a moistened cotton bud.
3. Using a soft sponge, remove the water from the appliance.
4. Wipe down the interior of the appliance with a food-safe Fridge Cleaner.

If you are having trouble locating the drainage hole on your appliance, please refer to the instruction manual for further information.

Ice buildup

Leaving the appliance’s door open for too long can result in temperature changes and humidity entering the appliance. In turn, the appliance can quickly freeze up as it works harder to return to the desired temperature levels. Ice buildup inside the appliance can often cause leaks as it begins to melt off. In this case, we recommend defrosting the appliance fully and ensuring that the door closes properly so when you switch the appliance back on you won’t have to deal with the same problem again.

Faulty door seal

If your fridge’s door seal has a leak or hast lost magnetisation, your fridge freezer’s door will fail to close properly and your appliance will have to work harder to maintain a consistent temperature. You can check if the door seal is faulty by trying to slip a small piece of paper or a £5 note through the door. If the item goes through, you will need to replace it. Fortunately, replacing the door seal is an easy task and does not require an engineer. To find out how to replace a door seal, click here.
