Detergent residue on clothes

Too much detergent has been used

The most obvious cause of detergent residue remaining on clothing items at the end of a cycle is too much detergent being dosed in the washing machine drawer or in a dosing ball. For more information on how much detergent you should use in your washing machine, click the link below.

The washing machine drum is overloaded

Overloading the washing machine will cause the laundry to move around in one large mass, which means the water will not be able to circulate around clothing items effectively and the detergent will therefore not be fully rinsed away, possibly leading to detergent residue on some clothing items at the end of the cycle. For more information on how to fill your washing machine correctly to avoid detergent residue on your clothes, click the link below.

The waste water hose is kinked or blocked

A kink or blockage in the waste water hose will affect your washing machines ability to drain water and detergent residue from the drum. Check that there are no kinks in the waste water hos by pulling the appliance out slightly and untwisting any visable kinks or bends in this hose. For more information on how to correctly install the waste water hose, click the link below. Also ensure that the waste water hose is not blocked by removing this hose from the siphon connection, putting the end of the hose in a bucket and selecting the drain programme. If there is a blockage, water will not fill, or struggle to fill, the bucket. If a blockage is found, clean the waste water hose and siphon.

The filter is blocked

A full or partial blockage in the filter or pump will also affect your washing machines ability to drain water and detergent residue from the drum. This will lead to poor rinsing results and detergent residue on your clothes at the end of the cycle as a result. Before you start a programme, clean the filter and remove any foreign objects which could be blocking the impeller.
