Cleaning a tumble dryer

Cleaning the tumble dryer is essential in order to keep the appliance running at its best for longer. There are various parts of the tumble dryer that require regular cleaning and this guide will help you ensure that your appliance is hygienically clean for yet another load.

Pay regular attention to the lint filter

The lint filter prevents fluff from blocking the dryer hose. We recommend cleaning the filter after every cycle, to prevent blockage. To clean the lint filter follow the steps below:

1. Open the dryer door and locate the filter (look behind and under the door).
2. Pull out the two-part fluff filter.
3. Remove the fluff from the recess in the fluff filter.
4. Pull apart the two-part filter.
5. Open both filters and remove the fluff.
6. Optional: Rinse away any remaining fluff under running water.
7. Dry the filters with a cloth or paper towel.
8. Re-assemble the filter.
9. Reinsert the two-part filter back into position.

To effectively remove unpleasant smells and odours, we recommend also using the Care Product for Tumble Dryers shown below. If your fluff filter is damaged, you can search for a replacement using our spare parts search.

Empty the condensation unit

Condensation dryers have a tank which should be emptied after every cycle. When removing the condensation tank, be aware that water may be warm and that there is no screw cap on the tank. To safely remove the condensation unit, pull the tank out slowly from the appliance and keep in an upright position. Then, simply pour out the water in the sink. When finished, securely replace the tank back into the tumble dryer.

Clean the EasyClean filter and heat exchanger every two weeks

To do this:
1. Locate the EasyClean filter and open the maintenance flap on the heat exchanger.
2. Release the levers on the filter.
3. Use the grip handle to pull the filter out.
4. Take out the filter mat and wash by hand.
5. Dry the filter mat.
6. Check how dirty the dryer’s heat exchanged is before putting the EasyClean filter back in. Some heat exchangers can be removed and rinsed with water to remove residual fluff.
7. If the heat exchanger cannot be removed you can use a soft brush to clean it. Take extra care when cleaning the heat exchanger. Do not touch the fins with your bare hands.
8. Slide the EasyClean filter in and lock it in place with the levers.

Clean the moisture sensor

The dryer is equipped with a stainless steel moisture sensor which measures how damp the laundry is. After long periods of usage the moisture sensor may become covered by a fine layer of limescale or residues of detergents and care products. Such residues must be removed regularly as the sensor function and in consequence the drying result may be impaired.

To clean the sensor, open the appliance door and thoroughly clean the area of the moisture sensor with a coarse sponge (the sensor itself is located in the door area). Do not use abrasives and steel wool as they can damage the sensor.
